SHIPMENT OF LITHIUM BATTERIES

• Lithium Batteries have become the battery  of  choice for  many instrument manufacturers including Sponsler. The Lithium Battery in our most popular instrument ( IT400 ) has a weight of 5 grams.
  
  Under current USA regulations these batteries are classified as DANGEROUS GOODS, and require special handling, marking, re-boxing, and document reporting.
  
  At this time, the ONLY way we can handle ANY shipment is by shipping it AIR FREIGHT - as our Forwarder (HELLMANN) is HAZMAT trained. (UPS, DHL, Fed Ex, and TNT are not yet in position to handle these shipments).
  
  Currently, this will impact ALL shipments with higher freight costs.
  
  The HAZMAT costs are running approximately $ 400 additional Plus the AIR COST vs. Courier delta.
  
  On small shipments we are shipping all products together.  On Large weight shipments, we are shipping the batteries SEPARATELY from the other products – to avoid the huge cost to repack large products like meters.

100 PERCENT AIR CARGO INSPECTION

• Expect DELAYS and ADDED COST on all AIR shipments.
  
  On August 3, 2007, USA legislation was passed requiring our Homeland Security to establish a system to screen 100 percent of cargo transported on passenger aircraft at a level equal to that of passenger checked baggage. The deadline of August 1, 2010 was established for the complete implementation of this inspection level.
  
  We have been advised by our forwarder Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, that they have responded by installing screening equipment and adding specialized security personnel. They are now complying.
  
  A high percentage of our air freight is transported by Passenger Aircraft.
  
  As we go into 2011, we still expect higher costs and delays in shipments to our customers.

END USER LOCATION NEEDED

• When you request a quotation, we expect the END USER is located in your country. If not, we expect you to advise us the country. See our Customer and Rep Operating guidelines (item 8) on our web site for details.
  
  For several years now, our US GOV’T has increased its monitoring of exports and applied some heavy penalties for any violations.
  
  Many large companies have now added a Compliance Officer at the highest level to assure compliance with export laws. With our quote requests, the following  companies now require we supply not only the country, but the End User name as well: GE, GE Energy, Cameron [Barton, Floco, Cliff Mock], and Bently Nevada. Some manufacturers now require Street Addresses for End Users or specifics on application use. Tryon Trading will advise if these extra details are needed when you request a quotation.
  
  We expect the trend for more End User information to spread to other manufacturers as well.
